J. A. Long Construction Company is a Boulder-based general contractor firm, operating since 1994, specializing in custom home building, renovations, and remodels. Project development is a collaborative process. For us, this means that the project itself gets three advocates
...the client, the architect, and the builder...each independently empowered to champion a unique set of parameters critical to the project's success.
The Client advocates for their needs, present and future, financial realities, and for all the ways they want the building to serve them. The Architect advocates for the project's aesthetics, volumetrics, spaces, durability and energy efficiency. The Builder advocates for the project's durability, safety cost containment, and the building's efficiency.
In other words, the client dreams, the architect designs, the contractor builds, forming an integrated and essential team, that brings the client full circle to live their dream.
OUR APPROACH
With our team approach in mind, we believe in rigorous project management: on-time and on-budget projects delivered through clear communication, open books, and project management acumen.
Regular site meetings include the client, architect, site supervisor, and project manager to review project status, and to ensure the work is moving along smoothly.
At J.A. Long Construction, we are driven to create and maintain
meticulous control over the project's objectives. The pre-construction phase includes developing a budget, confirming the scope of work, and creating a schedule. The construction phase requires attention to a high level of craftsmandship and detail throughout the building process, along with continuous monitoring of the budget and schedule.

Our project had many moving parts to it, as we were having Jerry construct both a home and an agricultural barn on a 37-acre parcel of land that had not had a residence on it in approximately 15 years. To complicate things, we were building during the Covid-19 pandemic!
These factors made our project a bit more challenging and slowed us down a bit. However, we were extremely grateful to be working with someone with Jerry’s experience. There were numerous complications, government regulations, and other factors that had to be managed very carefully. Jerry’s decades of working with architecture firms, dozens of subcontractors, and county authorities gave my wife and I a great deal of comfort.
With this project, we set to build our dream home. When the architecture firm showed us the design for the two buildings, we never would have imagined that the finished product would turn out as good as the plans and renderings. In fact, the finished product is not only better than the renderings, but better than we could have imagined. Every person who comes in the house and barn are constantly amazed by the extraordinarily high build quality and attention to detail of every single aspect of the home.
